Marvel is adding another acclaimed author to its roster (via LitHub): crime novelist Walter Mosley, who’ll be writing a six-issue series about The Thing for the comic publisher.
According to Marvel, Mosley’s run will begin in November 2021 on the six-book series, which will be illustrated by X-Men: Marvels Snapshots artist Tom Reilly.
Here’s the description from Marvel:
The story will range from the urban sprawl of the alleys of Manhattan to the furthest reaches of the cosmos itself. In THE THING, a lonely evening and a chance encounter (or is it?) sends Ben Grimm embarking on a sojourn that will have him confronting—and battling—figures both old and new.
As LitHub points out, Mosley isn’t a stranger to comics: in an interview that he held with the website, he noted that he’s “a sucker for the first hundred issues of the Fantastic Four and Spider-man.”
Mosley is the latest high-profile author to join Marvel’s ranks: In 2016, it hired The Beautiful Struggle and Between the World and Me author Ta-Nehisi Coates to write on Black Panther (along with artist Brian Stelfreeze), as well as Black Panther and the Crew and Captain America. The company also recruited G. Willow Wilson in 2011, who later went on to launch Ms. Marvel in 2014, while it also brought on Benjamin Percy to write X-Force in 2019 and Wolverine in 2020.
